Avijit Murder Case: Probe report deadline extended for 41st time

A Dhaka court yesterday ordered Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to submit on February 17 the probe report of the case filed over the murder of writer-blogger Avijit Roy in February 2015.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari passed the order after Md Monirul Islam, an inspector of CTTC and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, failed to submit the report by yesterday.

The court had earlier fixed 40 dates for submission of the probe report, but the IO failed to complete investigation.

Avijit's father Ajay Roy filed the murder case against unidentified assailants with Shahbagh Police Station.

His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya was also injured in the attack.

Police have so far arrested ten suspects for their alleged involvement in the crime.

They are -- Arafat Rahman alias Siam alias Sazzad, Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid, Mojammel Hossain alias Saimun, Shafiur Rahman Farabi, Sadekur Rahman Mithu, Alimul Mallik, Towhidur Rahman, Julhaj Biswas, Sabez Ali and Jafran Hossain.

Of them, Julhaj Biswas is out on bail while the others are now in jail.
