5 Jamaat-Shibir men held with 'crude bombs'

Police arrested five members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir at a coaching centre in Chattogram city on Sunday night, with three “crude bombs” and “militant books”.

The arrestees are Abul Hashem, 50, Fazlur Rahman Azad, 28, Nizam Uddin, 26, Yasin Arafat Mithu, 24, and Md Amzad, 24.

“Of them Hashem is the ameer of Kattali unit of Jamaat, Nizam is the treasurer of the party's Pahartali unit, and Azad is a leader of Shibir,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sadip Kumar Das of Pahartali Police Station told The Daily Star, adding that they were arrested at Prattay Coaching Centre in Sagorika area while holding a secret meeting around 11:00pm on Sunday to plan subversive activities. A case was filed against the five.
