Nahid, two others receive global award for education

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and two other Bangladeshi nationals have received the World Education Congress Global Awards 2017 for their outstanding contribution to education sector.

He received the award on Thursday at a ceremony of the sixth World Education Congress held at a hotel in Mumbai of India, said a press release.

The other awardees are Afroja Parvin, executive director of Nari Unnayan Shakti; and Saleha Kader, principal of Cherry Blossoms International School Dhaka.

Earlier in the day, the minister inaugurated the two-day congress, where several ministers, educationalists and social activists took part, said the release.

The award authorities nominated Nahid in May this year citing his contribution to the Bangladesh's education sector, it said.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said the country has progressed significantly in primary and secondary education.

On Friday, the ministry and its departments accorded a reception to Nahid for his achievement, the release added.
