Muhith for tax on junk food
Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday in parliament said he is mulling over imposing a 14.5 percent "fat tax" on junk food in the upcoming budget for fiscal 2017-18.
Junk food is gaining a lot of response from people as it is cheaper; but these foods are unhealthy, he said, while replaying to a call attention notice of ruling Awami League lawmaker Nurjahan Begum. “It's a good idea. I never had this idea of imposing tax on junk food. I will look into the matter while preparing next fiscal years' budget.”
