Manju seeks India, China's cooperation on water sharing

Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain Manju yesterday sought cooperation from neighbouring countries, especially from India and China, to solve water problems in this region.

He said around one billion of the world's seven billion people suffer from the crisis of drinkable water, but the industrialised countries do not realise their plight.

He also said Bangladesh is surrounded by India, Nepal, Bhutan and China; so these countries need to cooperate with each other to solve the crisis.

The minister made the remarks at a seminar organised by his ministry at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital, marking World Water Day, observed on March 22, said a press release.

The minister also hoped that Bangladesh and India would soon sign the Teesta water sharing agreement.
