Man kills wife over family feud
A man killed his wife by slitting her throat following a family feud in Kamrangirchar of Dhaka yesterday, said police.
The deceased, Payera Begum, 32, was the wife of Sohrab Hossain, who used to work as a day labourer and rickshaw-puller.
The couple used to quarrel a lot as Sohrab seldom went out for work. His family was mainly supported by the earnings of two of their four sons, said Shaheen Fakir, officer-in-charge of Kamrangirchar Police Station.
“Three days back, Sohrab went out of his house near Rony Market after a scuffle with his wife. He returned home around 8:00am yesterday with a sharp knife and stabbed his wife in the throat,” he said.
Hearing the groaning of Payera, her 16-year-old son who was in sleep woke up and raised a hue and cry prompting locals to chase down Sohrab.
Sohrab was later handed over to police.
Payera was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
