Khaleda to defend herself today
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a trial court today for placing her self-defence statement in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka will hear her self-defence at the makeshift court set up at Alia Madrasa in Bakshi Bazar around 11:30am, Sanaullah Miah, a lawyer for the former prime minister, told The Daily Star yesterday.
In July 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case accusing Khaleda, her eldest son Tarique, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that was received as grant for orphans via a foreign bank.
