Water Conference begins in Dhaka July 29
A two-day international conference on water will be held in the capital, Dhaka, on July 29 and 30, the water resources ministry said today.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference at Sonargaon Hotel, Local Government Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said at a press briefing at the Secretariat.
Around 82 representatives from 23 countries will participate in the conference, the minister said.
The conference themed “Water Sustained Development” will discuss water supply, sanitation, sharing experience, identifying problems and finding their solutions to attain the target of Sustainable Development Goals 6 (SDG-6).
Safe water, sanitation, water quality, usage and integrated water management will be the key sessions of the conference organized by Local Government Department, said the minister.
On the last day, the conference will adopt the Dhaka declaration, he said.

Asked about his yesterday’s comment on water logging, the LGRD minister said his statement was well thought out as the government has taken two projects to address the problem, which is now at the Planning Commission.
“The implementation of these projects will change the water logging scenario in the city” the minister said without elaborating his remark.
Yesterday, the minister at a programme said, “I promise that you will not see this [waterlogging] from next year.”
