Siddiqur to get job in health ministry: Nasim
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim today said Siddiqur Rahman, the college student whose eyes were damaged during a demonstration in Dhaka recently, would get a job in the health ministry after he returns to the country.
"The government will help Siddiqur to get rehabilitated. I will give him a job in my ministry on his return to the country from India whether he gets back his eye sight or not," he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled, 'Chikungunya: Dhaka Experience - 2017' at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) seminar hall in capital's Shahbagh area.
"We will try our level best so that he can get back his vision. If doctors suggest, Siddiqur's eyes will also be operated," he added.
Siddiqur, a third-year student of political science, was injured during a demonstration of the students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges at Shahbagh last month.
As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry arranged for his treatment at Chennai's Sankara Nethralaya Hospital. The government will bear the cost of his treatment. He was taken to the hospital on July 27.
Operation likely Friday
Meanwhile, physicians at the Sankara Nethralaya Hospital in Chennai of India today said that they have done all kinds of investigation to conduct an operation on Sidduqur.
Siddiqur’s physical fitness to be examined tomorrow and operation is likely to be conducted on Friday, a source at the hospital told The Daily Star over phone this evening.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon, Director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, BSMMU Registrar Prof ABM Abdul Hannan and Prof Mohammed Atiqur Rahman also spoke at the seminar, among others, with BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan in the chair.
The speakers said Chikungunya is not serious like other mosquito-borne diseases. After a particulate time, patients get recovery without receiving any special medical treatment.
Chikungunya infected patients should not be admitted to hospitals and even they do not need to go to hospitals for any test to diagnose the disease, they said.
