Indo-Bangla border confce held in Ctg, Rajshahi
The last sessions of two-day deputy commissioner (DC)-district magistrate-level conference between Bangladesh and India concluded yesterday in Chittagong and Rajshahi while a flag meeting was held in Benapole to discuss trans-border issues, including smuggling, adductions, cross-border terrorism, and their mutual solutions.
In Chittagong Circuit House, the meeting was attended by DCs, magistrates, and high-ups of police and Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) from Rangamati and Bandarban districts as well as DCs and high officials of police from Mizoram's Lunglei, Mamit and Lawngtlai.
In Rajshahi, 10 points, including exchange of prisoners and land records, border pillars' identification, making Chuadanga-Daulatganj-Majdia land port operational, widening of Gede-Darshana corridor, setting a market at Rajshahi frontier, trade between the countries, joint patrols for drugs and arms smuggling, and preventing border killings were discussed, said Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Mesbah Uddin Chowdhury after the meeting at a press conference.
From India, a team of four, comprising superintendents of police and district magistrates of Murshidabad and Nadia districts, while from Bangladesh a team of 15 from Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Chuadanga, Jhenidah, Kustia and Meherpur attended the conference.
Replying to a question about Phensedyl factories inside India, Nodia District Magistrate Bijoy Bharati Bharati said India is also concerned about the impact of the contraband drug which is destroying the youth in both counties.
In Benapole, Satwant Trivedi, DIG (IPS), Kolkata, led a 10-member delegation of Indian Border Security Force while Lt Col Tariqul Islam, staff officer of BGB Dhaka Headquarters, led a 10-member BGB delegation in BGB camp auditorium where development projects of both the countries to be implemented within 150 yards of different borders were discussed among other issues.
In January, the first joint border conference was held in India and yesterday both the countries agreed to hold such meeting frequently for fruitful discussions.
