India trying to repatriate boy stranded in Jessore for six years
India is trying to repatriate a 12-year-old boy, of its own from a shelter home in Jessore, years after he went missing from Delhi.
A senior official in the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is traveling to Jessore to meet Sonu on the directive of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Sonu is lodging in a children's shelter home in Jessore's Pulerhat, Swaraj said in a Twitter post.
"Our Joint Secretary Bangladesh Sripriya Ranganathan has met Mehboob and Mumtaz who claim that Sonu presently in Bangladesh is their son…” she added.
"We will match Sonu's DNA with the couple claiming to be his parents. In case DNA test is positive, we will bring Sonu to India without delay."
Sonu had reportedly gone missing from Delhi in 2010 and a man from Jessore recently contacted his family and gave details about his whereabouts.
