Idols, valuables stolen from Ctg temple

Unidentified miscreants stole small idols of Hindu deities, gold ornaments and money from a temple at Saroyatoli union of Boalkhali in Chittagong early yesterday.

However, none of the remaining idols were damaged during the incident, said police and the temple's priest. No one was arrested in this connection, said police.

The incident took place at Shree Shree Lokanath Brahmachari Sebashram between 2:00am and 4:00am, said Shamvu Aich, the temple's priest.

He said he lived right next to the temple. “I locked the temple gate after 1:00am and went home. When I woke up around 5:00am, I saw that the main gate of my residence was locked from outside. I got out through the back door. Once I went to the temple, I found that the gate locks were broken.”

“Miscreants took three bronze idols, three gold and silver chains, an amplifier and money from two donation boxes…,” he added.

Himangsu Das Rana, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station, said they were looking into the matter and have asked the priest to file a complaint. Sub-inspector Arifur Rahman of the police station also visited the temple.
