ICT to decide on indictment March 28

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday fixed March 28 to decide whether it will frame charges against a Tangail man in connection with the abduction and killing of philanthropist Ranada Prasad Shaha, his son and many others during the Liberation War in 1971.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam fixed the date after prosecution and defence counsel placed their arguments.

The prosecution on January 10 pressed charges against Mahbubur Rahman, 69, from Mirzapur in Tangail for allegedly abducting and killing Ranada, his son Bhabani Prasad Shaha and five others. He has also been charged with the abduction and killing of 55 others.

Mahbubur was arrested on November 7, 2015.

Meanwhile, the tribunal directed the prosecution to submit formal charges, if any, on May 3 in a case filed against three Habiganj men.
