Home economics students to block road indefinitely from Monday
Students of Home Economics College from Monday will block the capital’s Nilkhet intersection for an indefinite period until the government declares the college as an institute of Dhaka University.
The students also declared to boycott their classes and examinations from Monday in favour of their demands.
The announcement came a few hours after they blocked the intersection and demonstrated in front of their college on Azimpur road to press home their demands.
The vehicular movement on the road came to normalcy several hours after the students began their demonstration in the area around 1:30pm.
The first year students of the college boycotted their examinations and joined the blockade programme today, Sabrin Sultana Sumenur, a Masters student, told The Daily Star.
Their other demands include autonomy of the college, transport and library facilities, quality education, proper accommodation and appointing adequate number of teachers.
The students have been demonstrating in this regard for more than eight years.
