HC to hear govt measures on removing ambiguity

The High Court yesterday set Sunday for hearing the measures that has been taken by the authority concerned to remove the ambiguity from The Children Act 2013.

The Social Welfare Secretary has also been ordered to submit a written statement to the court in this regard within the stipulated time.

Shahidul Karim passed the order.

Earlier on October 31, 2016, the court issued a rule on Social Welfare and Legislative and Drafting challenging their failure to explain ambiguity in the Children Act.

The court issued the rule after four adult accused in separate cases lodged on

charges of raping children in Dhaka, Cox's Bazar and Rangpur, filed and secured bail under this law.

On August 15, 2016, HC issued a rule seeking explanation from the Children Court for granting bail to the adult perpetrators. The four judges of the courts submitted their explanations in line with the court order.
