HC clears way for BFUJ president polls
The High Court cleared the way today for holding election to the position of the president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists scheduled to be held tomorrow.
The HC order came after it stayed an order of a Chittagong court that halted the election recently following a case filed by two voters of Cox’s Bazar on the ground of correcting the voter list.
A HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Devnath passed the order in response of a writ petition filed by Abu Taher, chairman of BFUJ election commission.
Petitioner’s lawyer AM Amin Uddin told reporters there is no legal bar for holding the election for the post of BFUJ president tomorrow.
The BFUJ set tomorrow (July 29) to hold the poll as its president Altaf Mahmud died a few months ago.
The Daily Star senior journalist Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Ekushey TV senior journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Boishakhi TV journalist Ashok Chowdhury are contesting for the election.
