Govt to bring criminals under radar
Bangladesh government today decided to bring the countrywide network of criminals including extortionists and robbers under "special surveillance" to improve the law and order situation of the country.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order, chief of the body and Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu briefed reporters after the meeting.
Under the decision, all types of criminals including extortionists, professional goons and robbers will be brought under the special surveillance of the government.
“The law and order situation of the country improved much in the past few months,” Amu told reporters. “The militancy situation is completely under control of the law enforcers.”
“Law enforcers are inquiring about the students who are absent for long periods in schools and colleges. We are alert so that militancy cannot surface anymore.”
The narcotics control department arrested 8,561 people in line with 6,806 cases to check narcotics. We have also directed authorities concerned to take steps to curb deaths on highways and roads,” he said.
Presided over by Amu, the meeting was attended by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and top bosses of all law enforcing bodies.
