Frequent load-shedding in Rajshahi
Rajshahi city and district have been witnessing a frequent load-shedding since Friday.
Officials said suspension of power generation at most of the stations in Khulna zone and a routine shutdown of 500 megawatt Indian power import station in Bheramara caused such a situation.
An engineer of state-run North West Power Generation Company Ltd said the situation has improved as the Bheramara station started operation yesterday.
The Khulna power stations, however, did not come into operation till yesterday, he said, seeking anonymity.
Acknowledging the facts, the company Managing Director Zakiul Islam said efforts were going on to restore the operation.
He, however, could not say how many power stations are in trouble or what led to the situation.
Yesterday, around 55mw of power could be supplied to Rajshahi city from the national grid against a demand for 75mw while 75mw was available in the upazilas against 105mw, he said.
Ashraful Alam, a resident of the city's Uposhohor area, said load-shedding is causing immense sufferings to the dwellers. The situation gets worse at night time, he added.
Zinatus Shirin, a resident of Shalbagan area, said she witnessed one and a half hours of load shedding from 3:00am, two hours from 10:00am and an hour from 2:30pm yesterday.
