Former Gangni municipal mayor jailed for 10 years in Kushtia
A special tribunal court in Meherpur yesterday sentenced former Gangni municipal mayor Ashraful Islam to 10-year imprisonment in an arms case filed by police in 2012.
Ashraful stormed into the house of lawmaker of Meherpur-2 constituency Mokbul Hossain at May 27 night in 2012 with an aim to shoot him, but the lawmaker was not home at that time, said the prosecution.
Later, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members and police arrested Ahraful in his house in Pouro area and recovered a gun, two magazines and three bullets from there.
According to sources, Ashraful had served as the finance affairs secretary of BNP Gangi upazila unit until he joined Awami League in 2013.
