Final exams pending for three months

The anthropology students of Chittagong University yesterday demanded that their pending final year honours examination be held immediately.

Around 50 students raised the demand at a human chain at Shaheed Minar on the campus.

Sources at the anthropology department said the fourth year examination was supposed to be held on August 20, 2017.

Sajeda Kakoli, one of the students, said, “Our friends from other departments have already filled out forms to attend their examination.”

“What is our fault?” she said.

Campus sources further said the date for the examination was deferred following a writ petition filed with the High Court by department teacher Prof Rahman Nasir Uddin, challenging a decision to relieve him of the exam committee duties. The decision came from a CU syndicate meeting following an allegation against the teacher of violation of rules in holding an exam.

On September 11, the HC issued a rule on the CU authorities to explain as to why the decision should not be declared illegal.

The HC also stayed all the activities of the examination committee until the petition is disposed of.
