A festival of love and books
While the Amar Ekushey Granthamela wore a joyful yellow look in celebration of the Pahela Falgun on Tuesday, it was drenched in the colour of love yesterday.
Adorned with flower tiaras and bright-coloured outfits, visitors thronged the fair grounds as soon as it opened. A large number of them were young couples who came to the book fair to look for the perfect book for their significant others on the occasion of Valentine's Day.
Many of these couples -- girls in saris with garlands of flowers in their hair and boys in punjabis -- were seen enjoying the company of each other while shopping for books at the Suhrawardy Udyan and Bangla Academy premises.
With fresh leaves in trees and birds chirping, the weather was pleasant on the second day of the spring. Those who came to the fair yesterday, not just bought books, but also preserved the day's memories by taking a few snaps on their phones and cameras.
Amid festivity, love was truly in the air all throughout the fair grounds and its surrounding areas.
Bookworms were seen thronging the stalls looking for poetry collections of various authors such as Jibanananda Das, Shamsur Rahman, Mahadev Saha, Nirmalendu Gun and many more.
On the other hand, evergreen romantic novels by Humayun Ahmed, Anisul Hoque and Imdadul Haq Milon still remained as one of the best gifts for the loved ones.
Keeping pace with the Valentine's Day crowd, 193 new books arrived at the fair yesterday. Of those, 73 were on poetry and 27 were novels.
A book titled, “Raug [vein] Somachar” by Dr Abul Hasan Mohammad Bashar was published at the fair.
