Female Student Harassed

Jahangirnagar university (JU) students yesterday formed a human chain on the campus protesting “physical assault” on a female student, and demanding exemplary punishment of the perpetrators.

Over 50 students holding several anti-harassment posters gathered in front of the New Arts and Humanities faculty building around 12:00 noon and staged a demonstration. 

On Sunday, Shaon, 25, a garment hawker, pitched “sexually-abusive” words to the female student, while she was crossing the Mirpur Road near Shyamoli footbridge, police said.

The student protested the incident when Shaon’s sister-in-law Shumi rushed in and held her by the locks of her hair and assaulted her, the OC said.

On information, police reached the spot and detained the duo from the area.
