Ex-BCL man Rony sent to jail
A Chittagong court yesterday sent Nurul Azim Rony, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong city unit, to jail after rejecting his bail prayer in a case filed for assaulting a college principal and demanding extortion money.
Rony yesterday surrendered before the court as his four-week bail, granted from the High Court, expired.
According to the case filed by Jahed Khan, principal of Chattagram Biggan College, a group of BCL activists led by Rony went to Jahed's office and demanded Tk 20 lakh on March 31. As Jahed refused to oblige, they beat him up, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) (prosecution) Kazi Shahbuddin.
Jahed filed the case against eight BCL men, including Rony, and some 25 unnamed people.
