Ensure equal opportunity for people with disabilities

Speakers yesterday demanded better employment opportunities for the persons with disabilities as recent study showed 79 percent of them have very limited access to education.

The demand came at a consultation titled “Role of Literacy in Employment, Job Satisfaction and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in Bangladesh” held at Dhaka University. 

The people with disabilities are being denied of healthcare and health services in medical centres due to a lack of disability orientation among doctors and health workers, said a press release.

Prof Diba Hossain of Dhaka University and Assistant Prof Rayhan Ara Zaman of University of Rajshahi presented their findings.

They recommended stronger implementation of Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act, 2013 and enhancing quota for them in both private and public-sector.
