Elderly man sent to jail for raping teenager

An elderly man was sent to jail yesterday in a case filed for raping a 14-year-old girl in Sadar upazila in January.

Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court Judge Niskriti Hagidag gave the order after police produced him before the court, said Court Inspector Abdul Kader.

Victim's mother filed the case accusing their neighbour Abdul Aziz, 60, under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Sadar Police Station on Tuesday, said Sub-inspector SM Tariqul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO).

As the girl started suffering health complications recently, her mother took her to the district maternity and child care centre where doctors said the girl was five months pregnant, the IO said, quoting the victim's mother.

The girl said Aziz raped her when she was alone at their house, the IO said, quoting the mother.

Police arrested Aziz yesterday, the IO said, adding that the accused confessed to raping the girl.

The court recorded the statement of the girl the same day, the court inspector said.
