Eight DB men suspended for beating journo
Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) yesterday suspended eight members of its detective branch for allegedly beating a journalist in the city.
The suspended officials include a sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors, and five constables.
BMP Commissioner HM Ruhul Amin said Sumon, a video journalist of DBC television channel, engaged in an altercation with police when he tried to resist the arrest of a drug peddler. Police then attacked the journalist, he said.
However, Sumon denied the allegation, saying he only asked questions about the police operation. He also said police swooped on him and beat him unconscious.
A probe committee has been formed and ordered to submit a report immediately in this regard, said Uttam Kumar Paul, deputy commissioner of DB, BMP.
