EC refuses nomination to 18 candidates

The Election Commission (EC) yesterday refused nominations to 18 candidates including three mayoral and 15 councillor aspirants, blocking their way to run in the Sylhet City Corporation polls. 

Three independent mayoral candidates Kazi Jashim Uddin, Ehsanul Haque Taher and Moktadir Hossain were refused nominations by the EC regional office over allegations of forging identities of the voters in their support. 

SCC Election Returning Officer Alimuzzaman, also the regional election officer in Sylhet, said the candidates can appeal against the refusal.

To contest in SCC Polls, 9 mayoral aspirants, 137 general councillor contestants and 63 reserved councillor candidates submitted their nominations.
