DSCC public places will have WiFi

Declares Mayor Khokon

Newly elected Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon yesterday announced to bring different public places of DSCC under the WiFi network to ensure free internet service for people.

"I have already met with the prime minister's son, also her ICT adviser, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who assured me of his help to ensure free WiFi service in public places like the launch terminal, Nagar Bhaban and railway station," Khokon said while addressing the first board meeting after the April 28 election in the Nagar Bhaban.

All DSCC councillors, except two, were present at the meeting held.

Warning the councillors against nepotism, Khokon said there is a negative impression regarding DSCC and they have to change it through their honesty and skills.

He also urged them to monitor the garbage management system and mosquito control activities in their areas to ensure good services.

There are 5,000 garbage management workers in DSCC but 50 percent of them neglect their duties, he alleged.

Some of the councillors at the meeting proposed to name the Nagar Bhaban auditorium after first elected DCC mayor Mohammad Hanif and hanging portraits of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Hanif along with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's.

They also proposed to make a corner in the Nagar Bhaban museum to preserve mayor Hanif's memorabilia.

Meanwhile, some other councillors drew the mayor's attention to reducing traffic congestion, waterlogging, mosquito menace and waste management problems urgently.
