DMCH doc stabbed on DU campus
A physician of Dhaka Medical College Hospital was stabbed by unidentified criminals on Dhaka University campus yesterday, police said.
Samiul Alam Sohan, 45, a doctor at burn and plastic surgery unit of DMCH, was attacked by two unknown assailants near Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall around 11:00am, Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star.
Samiul was riding a motorbike on way to his workplace when two attackers, also on a motorbike, stabbed him in the back and sped away, the OC said, adding that the victim was injured critically.
The 25-centimetre-long gash from the neck down on Samiul's back needed 42 stitches, said Shariful Islam, a physician of DMCH. His condition was stable and he was under observation at DMCH, Shariful added.
Samiul is a leader of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), according to DMCH sources.
