Students protest Thursday’s police action, demand withdrawal of case
Students of seven colleges today staged demonstration in Dhaka protesting Thursday’s police action and demanding withdrawal of the case filed against them.
Some 150 students held a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club this afternoon to press home their five-point demand including compensation for their fellow Siddiqur Rahman, who suffered eye injuries critically during the police action.

Other demands include punishment to the responsible policemen for action and publishing the academic calendar for all institutions.
The agitating student also threatened for tougher programme including rallies for next three days if their demands will not meet by Tuesday.

At least four students including Siddiqur were injured when police charged batons and lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse a demonstration of students of the seven colleges, affiliated with Dhaka University, in Shahbagh area on Thursday.
The students held the programme demanding the announcement of their examination schedules.

Later, police filed a case against around 1,200 unnamed students of seven government colleges on charges of attempting to kill policemen, rioting with lethal weapons and damaging property.
