DU teacher’s appointment illegal, SC rules
The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court verdict that declared the appointment of a philosophy department teacher of Dhaka University illegal.
The apex court passed no order on a petition filed by Dhaka University authority seeking stay of the HC verdict that ruled against Khandker Tofail Ahmed’s appointment.
A no order means that the HC verdict will remain in force.
A three member bench of the appellate division of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha came up with the ruling after holding hearing of the petition.
Following a writ petition, the High Court on July 25 declared the appointment of Khandker Tofail Ahmed illegal on basis of an aspirant teacher’s writ petition.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star that the HC declared the appointment of Tofail as a DU teacher illegal, as his qualification was lesser than that of the writ petitioner.
He, however, said that the HC did not direct the DU authorities to appoint writ petitioner, MH Miraj Sourav, as a replacement for Tofail Ahmed.
