Decrease security deposits

The top leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal and Biplobi Workers Party met Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at his Agargaon office in Dhaka yesterday.

They placed an 18-point proposal to the CEC to hold the next parliamentary election in a free, fair and credible manner.

After the meeting, CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim, who led the team, told journalists that they, among others, demanded that the Election Commission decrease the deposit for candidates to Tk 5,000 from the existing amount of Tk 20,000, Selim said.

On recommendation from the field-level election officers, the EC is planning to increase the security deposit to Tk 50,000, EC sources said.
