Ctg youth drowns during idol immersion

A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee drowned in the Karnaphuli river during idol immersion while local boatmen rescued three youths in Chittagong city's Avaymitra Ghat area yesterday evening.

The examinee is Shanto Das, 18, son of Bikash Das, said Saiful Islam of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters in Agrabad. Identities of the three youths could not be known immediately.

Quoting witnesses, Saiful said the four did not know how to swim. Divers could not fish out Shanto's body till 8:50pm, he added.
