Ctg lawyer arrested for 'threatening' publisher
Police arrested a lawyer in Chittagong city's Bakalia area early yesterday for allegedly threatening a publisher.
The arrestee is Tipu Shil Joydeb, 35, said police.
“A lawyer of Chittagong court, Tipu, was arrested from his residence at Kalamia Bazar in Bakalia area,” said Mohammed Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.
On Tuesday, someone called Jamal Uddin, owner of Chittagong-based publication house Balaka Prakashan, over the phone and threatened him with dire consequences.
Later, Jamal, general secretary of Chottagram Srijanshil Prakasok Samiti, filed a general diary (GD) with Kotwali Police Station in this connection.
Jamal is also a researcher of "Encyclopaedia of Bangladesh Liberation War" -- a project run by Asiatic Society.
“After tracking the phone call, police traced Tipu and arrested him in this connection,” said OC Mohsin.
Tipu and Jamal know each other and Tipu threatened him due to personal feud over publishing issues, said the OC, adding that police were interrogating the lawyer to glean more information.
