Court wants probe report on bomb attack
A Dhaka court yesterday once again asked detectives to submit by April 4 the probe report of a case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 13 others over a crude bomb attack on the shipping minister's procession on February 16, 2015.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin passed the order after Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police Fazlul Haque, also the investigation officer, failed to submit any probe report by yesterday.
A labour leader, Ismail Hossain Bachchu, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on the day of the attack, accusing Khaleda as the mastermind.
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal General Secretary Shirin Sultana, Khaleda's Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan and her Special Assistant Shimul Biswas were also made accused in the case.
At least eight people were hurt in the crude bomb blast at the capitals' Gulshan-2 when a procession, led by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, was marching towards Khaleda's Gulshan office to lay siege to it protesting at the countrywide blockades and hartals.
Khaleda, now on bail in the case, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment on February 8 in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She is now in jail.
Meanwhile, the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka is yet to send the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case dockets to the High Court. After getting the dockets, the HC will pass an order on Khaleda's bail petition in the graft case.
