JnU students to observe 2-day strike from tomorrow
Jagannath University students will observe two-day strike from tomorrow to press home their demand for residential halls on the land of Dhaka's old central jail.
The announcement came at a press conference held on the campus following a three-hour demonstration in Tanti Bazar area from 10:30am, Raisul Islam Nayan, a fourth year student of marketing department of the university, told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, the law enforcers foiled a procession brought out by the university students in a bid to besiege the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka.
The law enforcers dispersed the students using water cannons and teargas shells when the procession reached in Bangshal area around 9:30am, said Md Ibrahim Khan, deputy commissioner (Lalbagh division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
During the police action, several of fellows were injured in police resistance, the students claimed.
The students have started their demonstration soon after Dhaka central Jail was shifted to Keraniganj last month.
