Cop stabbed by alleged drug trader

An assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) was seriously injured after an alleged drug trader stabbed him in Bandar upazila in Narayanganj yesterday.

The victim Iliyas Khan, ASI of Bandar Model Police Station, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Quoting witnesses, AKM Shaheen Mondal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar Model Police Station, Iliyas went to Dari Sonakanda to arrest Rabiul, an accused in a drug related case.

Meanwhile, Rabiul's father Tukku Miah, also an alleged  drug trader, reportedly stabbed the ASI in the chest in a bid to free his son from police.

Other police members managed to arrest Rabiul and his father Tukku Miah.

ASI Iliyas was first taken to Bandar upazila health complex and later shifted to DMCH as his condition deteriorated. 

Dr Mahbub Alam, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at Bandar Upazila Health Complex, said the wound is quite deep and he is in critical condition.
