Concert for Jucsu polls held

A concert was held yesterday at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus demanding the long-pending election of Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu).

Over 300 teachers, students, cultural, social and political activists from different public universities attended the event and expressed solidarity to the Jucsu polls.

Speakers at the inauguration ceremony urged the university authorities to take initiative for the elections.

Professor Anisa Pervin said to ensure a democratic environment on the campus, forming central student union is a must.

“As a teacher of the university, I want immediate Jucsu polls to make all the stakeholders of the university accountable,” said Prof. Mirza Taslima Sultana of Anthropology department. Asociate Prof. Farid Ahmed, General Secretary of JU Teachers Association (Juta) said, “…for ensuring cultural environment in the campus, its (Juscu) contribution is very important.”

The last election to Jucsu was held in 1992.

Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote (JSJ) organised the event at Selim Al Deen Muktamancha.

Blue Periscope, a band cohort of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet), Gaankobi of Dhaka University, Apollo of Rajshahi University (RU), JU dancing organization Nattayam and numbers of signers performed at the programme. Among others, former JSJ president Mahi Mahfuz, Vice President Musfiq Us Salehin, general secretary Nazmul Hossain, Chhatra Union president Imran Nadim, Chhatra Front president Masuk Anik Helal also spoke at the programme.
