Child dies after ingesting cockroach poison

A three-year-old died after ingesting cockroach poison, mistaking it for pickle, police said yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Faria Akhter, daughter of Sekandar Ali, of Goran area in the capital, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station.

“The girl mistook the poison for pickle and ingested it when nobody was around,” the OC said quoting family members.

She was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where she died.

Sekandar Ali is a private car driver, and lives with his family in a room at the ground floor of a nine-storey building in Goran area.

The body was handed over to her family without an autopsy.
