Celebrating 26 years without fear or favour
Heralding the motto “journalism without fear or favour,” The Daily Star is celebrating its 26th founding anniversary at a gala event held in Dhaka.
The gala celebration was held at Bashundhara Convention Centre in attendance of The Daily Star staff, dignitaries and well wishers of the reputed media house.
The programme began with a standing ovation to the national anthem followed by a minute’s silence in memory of Faraaz Ayaz Hossain, the Dhaka attack hero who sacrificed his life in a bid to save his friends.
Rokia Afzal Rahman, chairman of Media World Limited, placed a speech to inaugurate the programme.
“We have been under tremendous pressure, but we have succeeded in journeying through the high and low tides upholding our spirit and morale,” said Rokia Afzal.
She lauded The Daily Star’s courageous and ethical stand during the “hard times”.
During the programme, The Daily Star called on stage district-level newspaper editors and honoured them with crests. The Daily Star also recognised and honoured eight young change-makers of Bangladesh.
Also, The Daily Star handed a honorium of Tk 1 lakh to Abdus Samad, a rickshaw-puller from Faridpur, who has been planting a tree every day of his life for the past 48 years.
