CCC announces Tk 2,425 crore annual budget

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday announced Tk 2,425 crore budget for the fiscal year 2018-19.

City mayor AJM Nasir Uddin declared the budget at KB Sattar auditorium in CCC building at Anderkilla in the port city.

The highest earning will come from grants for development, which is Tk 1,680 crore, and the highest expenditure has been set for development work worth Tk 1,355 crore.

Budget for the last fiscal year, 2017-18, was Tk 2,327 crore, but CCC could execute only 38 percent of it. This year, the budget has increased by four percent.

Grant for development was also not satisfactory in the last fiscal. CCC expected grants worth Tk 1,290 crore, but received only Tk 442 crore.

Declaring the budget, AJM Nasir said in course of time industries have expanded in the port city, commercial activities have increased and demands  of the city dwellers have also skyrocketed.

CCC, for the first time in their budget, allocated Tk 2 crore for the rehabilitation of people with drug addiction.

“Budget is not only a document of income and expenditure; it also reflects people's desire for development. With our limited resources, we are giving our level best efforts to meet the demands of the city dwellers,” he said.
