Cabinet seeks review

The cabinet yesterday formed a six-member committee to further review the draft of Bangladesh Tariff Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

The committee was constituted at the regular weekly cabinet meeting with the principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office as its convener. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

“The draft law was placed before the cabinet today but the meeting sent it back for further review,” said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam at a briefing after the meeting.

He said the principal secretary will act as the convener of the committee, with the Tariff Commission chairman as its member secretary.

The four other members of the committee are secretaries of the ministries of finance, commerce and industries and the chairman of NBR, Shafiul Alam added.

The cabinet was also apprised of the foreign minister's visit to Japan from May 13 to 15.

The meeting was also informed about the participation of a Bangladesh delegation led by the finance minister at the 51st Board of Governors' Meeting of the Asian Development Bank on May 3-6 in Manila, Philippines.
