The elder brother of slain Juba Dal leader Harunur Rashid Chowdhuhry filed a murder case with Sadarghat Police Station on Monday night accusing ten named persons.
On Sunday, Harunur was shot dead in front of his business establishment in the port city's Kadamtali area allegedly by local Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League men.
Harunur's brother Humayun Chowdhury filed the case mentioning the names of ten persons, said Sadarghat Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Ruhul Amin.
The accused are Md Alamgir, 30; Md Kaisar, 25; Md Nur Nabi, 34; Md Hridoy, 28; Mosharraf Hossain Liton, 28; Md Sarif, 35; Md Jasim, 29; Tanvir Hossain Shaon, 30; Towkir Hossain Sejan, 30; and Hazi Md Salauddin, 40.
However, no one was arrested in this connection till Tuesday evening, said the inspector.
According to the case statement, the ten along with some others tried to establish supremacy in Kadamtali area by taking the control of truck and covered van business, and were demanding tolls from the transport sector.
As Harunur resisted the move on a number of occasions earlier, the accused plotted the murder and executed it in collaboration with each other, said the case statement.
Harunur, joint convener of Sadarghat thana Jubo Dal unit, was shot dead by a group of youths from a tail of a procession organised by Sadarghat thana Jubo League and Awami League to celebrate the Unesco's recognition of historic March 7 speech of the Father of the Nation.
After the murder, co-workers and business leaders then alleged that the extortionists had plotted the murder to take revenge and establish supremacy on transport business as Harunur, the owner of ST Transport, took a firm stance against the extortion by BCL men.
