Brac world's top NGO yet again
For the third consecutive year, Brac has been ranked this year's top NGO by Geneva-based NGO Advisor.
NGO Advisor, an independent media organisation, published the Top 500 NGOs World rankings for 2018 yesterday, said a Brac press release.
NGO Advisor, in order to highlight outstanding non-profit organisations each year, conducts exhaustive research, evaluates hundreds of NGOs against a rigorous set of criteria under a robust methodology based on innovation, impact and governance.
Brac topped the ranking for the fourth time in the last five years.
Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders; the Danish Refugee Council; the Skoll Foundation and Ashoka are in the top five of the rankings this year.
“We are deeply honoured to be ranked as the Top Global NGO for the third consecutive year,” said Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder and chairperson of Brac.
“Our 110 million plus programme participants worldwide, who play an active role in their own transformative journeys, are the real winners. We are inspired by their resilience and spirit to continue striving for a just and equitable world,” he added.
Founded in Bangladesh in 1972, Brac runs programmes in microfinance, education, healthcare, legal rights, girls' empowerment, agriculture and socially responsible businesses in 11 countries.
The majority of Brac's programmes are self-financed and in Bangladesh, more than 75 percent of its budget comes from its own social enterprises.
In a statement, NGO Advisor Editor-in-Chief Jean-Christophe Nothias said Brac continues to chart new territory in all three pillars of their methodology -- innovation, impact, and governance, pioneering creative, cost-effective, and sustainable interventions that reach millions of the most vulnerable people worldwide.
