Boy injured in crude bomb blast
A college student suffered serious injuries in a crude bomb explosion in Burichong upazila of Comilla early Thursday.
The class-XI student of a local college is undergoing treatment under police custody at Comilla Medical College Hospital.
The blast occurred on the ground floor of his grandfather's house where the 17-year-old and one of his cousins used to live, said Md Shah Abid Hossain, superintendent of Comilla police, after visiting the spot around 10:00pm on Thursday.
The boy suffered burns on his arms, neck and face in the blast around 2:00am that also broke the door and two window shields of the room, Abid told our Comilla correspondent.
The four-storey building trembled from the blast, said Masud, a tenant in the house, adding that clothes and other flammable valuables in the room also caught fire.
After the explosion, locals rushed in and rescued the injured.
Police also detained his cousin, a 14-year-old boy, who received minor injuries, during the blast.
Law enforcers cordoned off the house after the incident.
A bomb disposal unit from Dhaka reached the spot on Thursday night and collected samples.
Comilla District Police and the Detective Branch of police have already launched an investigation to know whether the injured had any militancy link.
