BNP casts doubt over Rohingya repatriation deal with Myanmar
BNP yesterday raised questions over the agreement signed by the government with Myanmar over sending Rohingyas back to their homeland.
“It is a good initiative that you [the government] signed a treaty with Myanmar quickly … What will we get from the agreement?” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a programme in the capital marking 53rd birth anniversary of BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Fakhrul said, “The foreign minister [AH Mahmood Ali] has briefed today [yesterday] that those who have arrived here since 2016 will be repatriated to Myanmar. They didn't talk about the rest of the Rohingyas.”
He also raised questions on signing treaty with Myanmar without involving the United Nations and different countries, which were mounting pressure on Myanmar for the violence unleashed against Rohingyas.
