BGB man fatally run over by bus
A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) died as speeding bus hit him at Bijoy Sarani intersection in the capital yesterday.
The deceased, Rupam Dio, 45, was a lance nayek at BGB headquarters, relatives told The Daily Star.
The BGB man was on his way to Mohakhali, they said.
He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
A case was filed with Tejgaon Police Station in this regard, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Shahjahan.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed and his wife seriously injured as he lost his control over the bike and it hit a pillar beside Patuakhali-Kuakata road on Friday, police sources said quoting locals.
The deceased, identified as Shahinoor Islam, 35, was a policeman at Barguna jail, said AG Mahmud, superintendent of the jail.
The couple received primary treatment at a Kuakata hospital. Later, Shahinoor was transferred to Barisal Sher-e-Banga Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
In another incident, a man was killed on the spot when a truck ran him over on Biral-Bhandara road in Biral upazila of Dinajpur yesterday.
The deceased is Hasen Ali.
In Rangpur, a man was killed as a tractor he was in overturned in Badarganj upazila yesterday, said witnesses.
The deceased is Mahbubur Rahman, 38.
Locals rushed him to Badarganj Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
In Faridpur, an elderly man was killed as a truck ran him over in Munshi Bazar area under Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased is Kashem Sheikh, 60, from Kafura village under Gerda Union of Sadar upazila. The man was crossing a bridge in Munshi Bazar area.
He succumbed to his injuries on his way to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.
In Thakurgaon, a motorcyclist was killed on the spot after a Panchagarh-bound truck ran him over on the Panchagarh-Dhaka highway yesterday.
The accident occurred as Mahfuzur Rahman Atom, lost his control over the motorbike.
In another incident, a rickshaw-puller and his passenger were killed when a Dhaka-bound truck hit the rickshaw on the Thakurgaon-Dhaka highway in Satyapir Bridge area yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Shovon, 24, of Nishchintapur of Thakurgaon municipality.
He was going home, Thakurgaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Kafil Uddin told The Daily Star. The identity of the rickshaw-puller could not be known immediately.
