Begum Akhter of DU gets Ananya award
Prof Begum Akhter Kamal, a noted essayist and researcher, was presented “Ananya Literary Award 2016” yesterday for outstanding contribution to Bangla literature.
The award, given especially to female writers, was presented at a ceremony at Bangaldesh National Museum.
Akhter, also the chairperson of Dhaka University's Bangla department, is known for her research based write-ups. She wrote over 12 books, including “Kabitar Nandanikata” (Aesthetics of Poetry) and “Shamsur Rahmaner Kabita” (Poetry of Shamsur Rahman).
Eminent author and former “Ananya Literary Award” winner Selina Hossain said Akhter brought literary criticism to a new level.
Prof Serajul Islam Chowdhury, poet Asad Chowdhury and Ananya Editor Tasmima Hossain were present.
The fortnightly magazine Ananya has been giving the award since 1993.
