BCL men's attack sends JU student to hospital
Two Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders beat up a student in his room at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Jahangirnagar University on Saturday night.
With leg and head injuries, Salauddin Khairullah Tuhin, a master's student of economics, was undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, said his friends.
Tuhin submitted a written complaint to the university proctor yesterday. He alleged that Anik Kumar Nath and Abdullah Al Mamun Razu, vice presidents of the JU unit of BCL, stormed into his room at that night and hurled expletives at him.The duo then brought an allegation of ransacking Razu's room the night before, said Tuhin.
At one stage, they beat him up with iron rods and pipes, he further alleged. Tuhin also brought an allegation of murder attempt against the leaders of the pro-Awami League student organisation. Anik and Razu confessed to the attack, saying, “Tuhin ransacked Razu's room on Friday night… we beat him a little.” However, Tuhin denied the allegation of ransacking Razu's room. The BCL unit President Jewel Rana said organisational affairs are not behind the incident. “It occurred following an internal feud among them.”
Proctor Sikder Md Zulkarnine said they forwarded the complaint to the dormitory authorities. “Actions will be taken after we get a primary report.”
Hall Provost Farid Ahmed said, “We have called an emergency meeting today (Sunday).”
The meeting was not held till last evening.
