BCL men run amok on CU campus
A faction of rampaging activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Chittagong University yesterday ran riot through the university campus, demanding the removal of Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury.
They vandalised the proctor's office, 14 vehicles belonging to the university and five rooms of the university's dramatics department.
Yesterday around 12:30pm, the BCL activists suddenly declared an “indefinite blockade” to protest the detention of their activists and police attack on “sleeping BCL men” inside their dormitories, said police and university authorities.
The BCL faction demanded the removal of the CU proctor for his alleged order of the police attack on their fellows, they added. During their blockade programme, the agitators also vandalised a vehicle of Somoy TV and physically assaulted two journalists in front of the proctor's office, witnesses said.
Led by Alamgir Tipu, former president of CU BCL and also a follower of AJM Nasir Uddin, the agitators called the “indefinite blockade” and took position at the Zero Point on the campus after padlocking the main entrance of the university.
Earlier, on Monday, at least six BCL activists were injured in a factional clash that ensued between the followers of Chittagong City Awami League President Late ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and the followers of Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin over establishing supremacy on the campus.
